Zoom App launches for the Android platform
A new Android app called Zoom will let users zoom in on the world around them using a single tap, while the app will also let users map out the world by heading over to a specific country.
“Zoom is a great app for those who love exploring the world and can’t get enough of Google Maps, but don’t want to download the app for every country and location in the world,” said Zoom co-founder and CEO Alex Lopresti.
“We want people to be able to take advantage of the huge variety of Android devices and apps, from smart phones to tablets to smartphones, and all that they can do on those platforms.”
“People love to explore the world, and the Google Maps application on Android is really great for that,” he said.
“You can zoom in and see where your friends are, where they are, what they’re doing and where they’re heading, all while keeping your hands free to take in the view of all of that.”
The new app will be free to download for Android users and will also be available for Apple users, Mr Lopsti said.
Zoom users will be able access the app through a new Android navigation menu called the “Zoom app”.
“Zooming on Android allows you to zoom out of the app and see more of the world without having to download a new app,” Mr Lampresti said, explaining the decision to focus on the Android app rather than the Google app was based on how much people liked the Google experience.
“Google Maps and Google Maps Maps Maps apps are so much better on Android and the way they work really lends itself to a great experience,” Mr Strop said.
The app will feature three zoom options: zoom in, zoom out, and zoom to an entire country.
The company is also looking to expand its existing product line into the US and Canada, with the first US release expected later this year.
Mr Lopsteis previous ventures include the popular app Zoom, which is used by more than 50 million people in the US every day, and Zoom Maps, which maps the world using the Android operating system.
Zoombar has been downloaded over 100 million times in the last three years, with over 15 million people using it to navigate around the world.
Zoo will be available to download from the Google Play store for $5.99 for the iPhone and $9.99 on Android devices.
Mr Strop and Mr Lope said they were excited to see what people were using Zoom and wanted to make sure that Zoom was a popular application on all Android devices, and that they were working on expanding it into the app store.
